Leavenworth is one of the most unique towns in Washington. In the 1960s, the struggling logging town reinvented itself as a Bavarian village, and the transformation is remarkable. Today, the entire downtown is built in Alpine style, with lederhosen-clad locals, German restaurants, and year-round festivals. Surrounded by the Cascade Mountains, Leavenworth is a gateway to hiking, river rafting, skiing, and mountain biking. The Christmas Lighting Festival is legendary.
